Research Areas

Jian Cui (born 1986) received his Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from Stanford University. There, he conducted basic research in single-molecule biophysical chemistry under Prof. W.E.Moerner. He received his PhD in Physical Chemistry from MIT under Prof. Moungi Bawendi, where he worked with interferometric and photon counting methods to study semiconductor nanocrystals.

In 2014, he joined the Optical Materials Engineering Laboratory under Prof. David Norris at ETH Zurich. There, he worked on the design and fabrication of miniaturized optical devices in the field of plasmonics and nanophotonics. He started his independent research career in October 2018 at the Helmholtz Pioneer Campus to work on nanomaterials and nanophotonic approaches to biology.
