em. Prof. Dr. Helmut Simon (CV)
I was born on April 14, 1927 in Würzburg and moved with my parents
1930 to Ludwigshafen/Rh.
After studying chemistry at the University of
Mainz from April 1946 for four semesters I changed then to the
University of Heidelberg where I became Dr. rer nat. in February 1954.
Working for my rer. nat. thesis with Prof. F. Weygand
I received simultaneously a position as a scientific assistant of Prof. K.
Freudenberg for directing the microanalytical laboratory of the
chemistry department for about 2.5 years. From fall 1954 until
spring 1964 I continued to work in the group of F. Weygand in
Heidelberg, Tübingen, Technical University Berlin, and TH Munich.
After finishing my habilitation in 1960 in Munich I got 1964
calls for a professorship in Berkeley, USA, a chair in Organic
Chemistry from the University of Lausanne and for a chair of
Chemistry and Agricultural Technology at the Faculty for Agriculture
in Weihenstephan. I decided myself for the latter position. In 1971
I followed an offer for a newly founded chair for Organic Chemistry
and Biochemistry at TUM in Munich. In this position I stayed until
March 31, 1994. For the next three years I was a substitute of the
successor. The chair was split into two. One (Lehrstuhl für
Organische Chemie und Biochemie) was occupied by A. Bacher
and the other (Lehrstuhl für Biotechnologie) by J. Buchner.
More details can be seen in Nachr. Chem. Tech. Lab. 40, 630-631 1992,
and Mitt. TUM 4, 96/97, 46-48.
